The United Arab Emirates, aka UAE, hosted the inaugural Asia cup. The Asia cup used to be played in the ODI or 50-over format. However, it is played in the T20 or 20-over format with recent changes. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are the confirmed teams appearing in the 2022 Asia cup. Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore, and UAE will play qualifiers among themselves, and the winner of the qualifier will grab the 6th spot in the Asia cup. Ex Sri Lakan player Sanath Jayasuriya holds the record for highest overall runs in the Asia cup with 1220 runs in his name. While his teammate Lasith Malinga holds the records for most wickets in the Asia cup, with 33 wickets in his name. Asia cup has seen some fascinating matches between these Asian cricketing giants in the past, and we expect this year to be the same.

The top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the super 4. All the qualified teams will play against each other in the super 4 stages. The teams with the highest points in the super 4 stage will go on to play the finals, and the winner will be crowned the champions of the Asia cup 2022. Asia Cup Schedule

This year Asia cup will be played in a round-robin format with 6 teams. The teams are divided into 2 groups. Group 1 consists of India, Pakistan, and the 3rd team will be the one that wins the qualifier. While group 2 consists of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. The Asia cup will start on 27th August 2022.

The Asia cup 2022 will be played in 2 venues, the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai and Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah. Sri Lanka is hosting the Asia cup 2022. However, it will be played in UAE due to Sri Lanka’s economic crisis.

Teams of Asia cup 2022

So far, only India and Pakistan have announced their squad. However, we also have a list of players from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan who are likely to participate in the Asia cup 2022.

India-

The Indian squad, has announced Rohit Sharma to be their skipper. Pakistan-

Babar Azam will lead the Pakistan squad in the Asia cup 2022. Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shahnawaz Dahani, Usman Qadir will be part of the main squad of Pakistan.

Afghanistan-

Mohammad Nabi is expected to lead the Afghanistan squad in the Asia cup 2022. Najibullah Zadran, Afsar Zazai, Azmatullah Omarzai, Farid Ahmad Malik, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Hazratullah Zazai, Ibrahim Zadran, Karim Janat, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Najibullah Zadran, Naveen ul Haq, Noor Ahmad, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rashid Khan, Samiullah Shinwari are expected to be the part of the main squad with Nijat Masood, Qais Ahmed, Sharafuddin Ashraf on standby in case of any injuries or emergencies.
